The Emergency Department (ED) plays a crucial role in managing critically ill patients, with triage serving as a key process to prioritize care based on urgency. However, a surge in patient visits that surpasses service capacity has led to overcrowding, compromising the accuracy of triage implementation. This situation not only extends waiting times and diminishes service quality but also heightens the risk of clinical errors that threaten patient safety. This study investigates the impact of overcrowding on triage accuracy through a literature review of research articles sourced from Google Scholar, PubMed, and Science Direct. Out of ten articles reviewed, five met the inclusion criteria: original research, written in Indonesian or English, full-text availability, published within the last five years, and focused on the relationship between ED overcrowding and triage accuracy. The findings from these selected studies consistently demonstrate a significant correlation between overcrowding and reduced triage precision. The evidence suggests that overcrowding in the ED directly contributes to a decline in triage accuracy, potentially leading to increased patient morbidity and mortality.
